Lenten Study for Adults

  • The Conference Room 39 North Broadway White Plains, NY, 10601 United States (map)

As a congregational study during Lent, adults are invited to read The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach About Jesus' Final Week in Jerusalem by renowned teachers John Dominic Crossan and the late Marcus Borg. Each chapter explores the events of one day from Palm Sunday to Easter, as described first by the Gospel of Mark and then the other Gospels. Readers are enabled to experience the fullness of the Gospel as if for the first time again and led in our longing to experience and share the love of God. Copies of the book will be available at church for $12 starting this Sunday. Then, beginning on the first Sunday of Lent, all are invited to meet after worship for a one hour conversation about the book, chapter by chapter and day by day.

  • March 10 - Chapter One: Palm Sunday

  • March 17 - Chapter Two: Monday

  • March 24 - Chapter Three: Tuesday

  • March 31 - Chapter Four - Wednesday

  • April 7 - Chapter Five - Thursday

Participants are encouraged to return during Holy Week for the conclusion of the book. The last three chapter follow the violence of Friday, the silence of Saturday, and the glory of Easter Sunday. Those who are able are invited to spend one hour each day with this sacred story from 7:30-8:30, just like Pastor Jeff's Bible Study.

  • Monday, April 15 - Chapter Six: Good Friday

  • Tuesday, April 16 - Chapter Seven: Holy Saturday

  • Wednesday, April 17 - Chapter Eight: Easter Sunday

  • Thursday, April 18, at 8:00 - Our Maundy Thursday Communion Service and Tennebrae

  • Friday, April 19, at noon - Community Good Friday Service

  • Sunday, April 21 - Sunrise Service (6:00) and Festival Worship  (10:00)

A limited number of books are for sale in the church office. If you shop online at Amazon, please use the amazon link under the "give" tab on this website and a portion of your purchase will return to the church.
