After worship on the first four Sundays in Lent (Feb. 18, 25, and March 4, 11), the adult education class will discuss select chapters from Rick Ufford-Chase's book, Faithful Resistance: Gospel Visions for the Church in a Time of Empire. Easy to read but deeply challenging, Rick has gathered in the pages of this book a diverse group of church leaders who demonstrate how the contemporary church (and especially the Presbyterian Church) can honestly examine who we are and what we need to become as disciples of Jesus today. They model the kind of "repentance" and "change of heart" we are called to in Lent.
Join us each week for worship at 10:00, and then stay for the discussion.
- Feb. 18: Introduction and Chapter 1, "Confronting Empire at the Border"
- Feb. 25: Chapter 3, "Re-imagining ecological Theology"
- March 4: Chapter 6, "The Local Congregation as the Locus of Resistance."
- March 11: Chapter 9, "Dismantling the Corporate Church as a Step Toward Liberation"
