Led by Elder Barbara Horan, the church book group meets on the third Tuesday of each month in the pastor's office. Selection are chosen by the group and reflect our desire to understand the world in which we live. The selection for Tuesday, February 20, is First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, by Loung Ung.
The story is now also a Netflix film starring Angelina Jolie. (But you certainly want to read and discuss the book first. It's always better.)
"From a childhood survivor of the Cambodian genocide under the regime of Pol Pot, this is a riveting narrative of war crimes and desperate actions, the unnerving strength of a small girl and her family, and their triumph of spirit." - Amazon.com (remember to use the "give" tab on this website to get to amazon when you shop online, and a portion of what you spend will return to the church).
