Noontime Prayers and Ashes

Lent is a time to pay special attention to the work of God in our lives, our community, and the world in which we live. In doing so, we open ourselves to participate in the continuing renewal God seeks to bring to all of creation. We think about how the values of God’s reign - peace, reconciliation, forgiveness, and justice for all - can be lived out in our lives and our communities. Are our choices and actions compatible with God’s will? It is a time to reflect on our baptismal promises and prepare to renew our covenant relationship with God.

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, a time of confession, assurance, and commitment. Knowing and experiencing God’s forgiveness allows us to honestly examine our lives. Without that assurance, the task could be overwhelming. Ash Wednesday reminds us that the work of Lent is always undertaken in the knowledge that rebirth and resurrection will come.

Pastor Lynn Dunn will offer prayers and ashes in the Sanctuary at noon.
